CaseLearns Mission

CaseLearns Mission

An academic library is a teaching library, and the rapid growth of technology has made the need for teaching information skills even more important. As information specialists, librarians are uniquely suited to provide instruction to faculty and students not only on research skills and resources (whether they are in print or online) but also the effective use of the latest learning technologies.

The librarians and staff involved in CaseLearns will be instrumental in promoting information literacy and the latest in teaching technologies on the Case campus.

CaseLearns mission is to distribute the keys to information literacy which in turn will define the ability to select appropriate information resources, understand the structure and purpose of those sources of information, and critically evaluate the information retrieved.

Information literacy in today's technologically advanced environment has become increasingly complex. The CaseLearns program will continue to provide faculty, students, and staff with the necessary tools to:

  • Make informed choices about the thousands of resources that have become available from the desktop.
  • Have sufficient skills to make effective use of those resources.
  • Have sufficient knowledge to evaluate the validity and usefulness of information retrieved.
  • Be aware of the principles regarding the ethical use of information based on a knowledge of information property rights and legislation.
  • Training on software products which will support skills needed to excel in various employment capabilities.
