Using GIS to Understand the Ecology, Dispersal, and Evolutionary History of Diseases: Examples using Anthrax, Plague, and Tularemia
Because they are potential bioterrorism agents as well as naturally occurring diseases, significant resources have been directed to the study of anthrax, plague, and tularemia. These investments have resulted in a wealth of data on these three diseases. As such they represent model disease systems that can provide insights on new diseases. Using these model systems, Dr. Wagner will provide examples of how combining genetic data with geographic data can provide powerful insights into the ecology, dispersal, and evolutionary history of infectious diseases.
