Did you know that no matter which school you graduated from, when you graduated or where you live, you can still take advantage of many resources at Kelvin Smith Library? Upon graduation from CWRU, you are welcomed as a member of the Alumni Association and become eligible for many benefits, including the ability to register for the KSL Alumni Portal. Whether you live across town or across the globe, this FREE service allows you to access a myriad of databases to support your personal or business-related research; browse e-books, digital journals and statistical datasets; or consult with research services librarians via phone, online chat or email. If you do reside nearby, or ever find yourself back for a visit, Portal members can attend special events, borrow materials, take instructional classes or enjoy a cup of coffee at our café.‌

Support of the Kelvin Smith Library has helped us create the modern, welcoming facility that it is today. KSL is a place for alumni, students and faculty to collaborate and connect with resources to pursue knowledge creation and scholarly research. To ensure our future as the information laboratory for connection, collection, curation and creation at Case Western Reserve University, there are many ways to help.

  • CONNECTION happens 24/7 at KSL. Open around-the-clock during the academic year, our unique classrooms and facilities nurture interaction and inspire innovation. Recently transformed study spaces offer comfortable, technology-equipped environments where groundbreaking research and learning can flourish. Your gift of $1,000 will furnish a state-of-the-art study space.
  • COLLECTION development remains vital to elevating teaching and learning at CWRU. With over 2 million print and electronic items, KSL provides access to resources that support cutting-edge research. The digitization of current materials and the acquisition of new resources keep collections vibrant and relevant. Your gift of $500 will enable us to digitize essential resources so they are accessible to scholars around the world.
  • CURATION of special collections and archives materials in a greater number of exhibits and displays has resulted in increased use of these resources. Such events allow significantly more alumni, students and faculty to experience the breadth and depth of our priceless collections, but preservation of these materials requires specialized expertise. Your gift of $750 will repair a rare and unique book, returning it to use as a scholarly resource.
  • CREATION of innovative ideas and research fuels KSL’s Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship, where access to emerging digital tools enables the work of scholars to reach audiences in new and exciting ways. As we engage the campus in conversations to propel digital scholarship at CWRU forward, we continue to add important tools and services to expand the Center’s capabilities. Your gift of $2,500 will enhance equipment and resources to support new digital projects.
