Collection Salvage Priorities:
Kelvin Smith Library
The following list is ranked in order from top priority to lowest priority. Disaster salvage should proceed accordingly.
1. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS 2nd FLOOR VAULT
Location and access: 2nd floor, Northwest section of building.
The door to the second floor Special Collections Hatch Reading Room is locked except during business hours (10 AM-4:30PM, M-F) and has a keypad to alarm and disarm the department. Card access unlocks the door. Access to the department is limited to SRSC team members (Melissa Hubbard, Eleanor Blackman, Helen Conger, Jill Tatem, Elizabeth Meinke), Gina Midlik, Gail Reese, Tim Robson, William Claspy and Arnold Hirshon. Jennifer Kremyar has card access to the Hatch Reading Room but does not have a keypad code or keys to open the office or vault. Security will have emergency access only.
VAULT CONTENTS (2nd Floor) Opens with key
Location and access: Northwest corner of the 2nd floor, enter Special Collections Hatch Reading room, in the north corner of the room enter an office- the vault is through a door to the right upon entering the office area. The same key is needed to unlock both the office and the 2nd floor vault. Books are on compact shelving with manual controls to the left upon entering the Vault. Each shelf has a unique location mark in the form [Row/Section/Shelf]. Art works are in two flat storage cases with drawers on the right wall across from the book stacks, and photographs are stored in file cabinets along the same wall.
PRIORITIES WITHIN 2nd FLOOR VAULT:
2. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LOWER LEVEL
Location and access: Lower level, southwest corner of building. The LL Vault is locked and has a keypad to arm and disarm the room. Card access unlocks the door. Card access to the LL Vault is available through SRSC team members (Melissa Hubbard, Eleanor Blackman, Helen Conger, Jill Tatem, Elizabeth Meinke), Gina Midlik, Gail Reese, Tim Robson, Arnold Hirshon and William Claspy. Jennifer Kremyar has card access to the Special Collections Lower Level Vault but does not have keypad codes. Security will have emergency access only. Also, Shipping and Receiving Room.
Location of material in the vault: Books are on compact shelving, operable only when the power is on, or by battery packs. Manuscript materials are on shelving along the wall opposite the door.
PRIORITIES WITHIN LL VAULT:
Location and access: Northeast corner of Lower Level, across from Preservation. Keypad automatically disarms at 8AM and arms at 5PM, M-F and the door is open during those times. Card access and keypad entry are required at other times. The door to the hallway leading to the shipping and receiving room is open M-F from 8AM-5PM. All KSL staff have card access to the hallway at all times.
Location of materials in the Shipping and Receiving Room: Boxed manuscript materials are located on stationary shelving to the left upon entry into the Shipping and Receiving Room. All such materials should be treated with equal priority.
3. ORIGINAL ARTWORK AT KSL
Location: Located on all floors of the building. Mostly hung on the perimeter walls. A complete list of artwork and locations is included in the APPENDIX.
Location: 1st floor -the last (northwestern-most) 4 1/2 shelving units of the first row of the most northwest units (to the north of the central west windows)
5. OVERSIZE BOOKS
Location: 1st floor -the first 24 northwest shelving units to the north of the central west windows, before the microfilm.
6. GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS (excluding U.S. and State Geological Survey Collection)
Location: 2nd Floor, Southwest-the only book stacks on the second floor.
7. CIRCULATING COLLECTION- LC
Location: 3d floor, all units in the western stack area running from south to north, all units in the North Stacks except last 4.
8. CIRCULATING COLLECTION-DEWEY
Note: This will happen in the near future. Presently Journals N-Z are located in this area. (11/2016)
Location: KSL LL, Southwest corner of building. When getting off the elevator, go through the double doors on the right and make a left turn to the door at end of the hall. Card access is required, all KSL staff have card access.
9. JOURNAL COLLECTION
Location: 1st floor the North stacks from east to west ends of the floor; lower level all stacks (as of 11/2016. LL journals will be relocated in the future)
10. ADMINISTRATION OFFICE FILES
Location: 2nd floor North (2 left turns when coming off the stairs.)
The notation "Siegal" in the online catalog refers to the Aaron Garber Library of the Siegal College of Judaic Studies at 26500 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland OH 44122. The Aaron Garber Library is the academic library of the College and the central library of the Cleveland Jewish community. It includes 30,000 volumes, plus periodicals, language tapes, music and text CDs in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. The Library's electronic catalog is part of the online library system managed by Case Western Reserve University, and is included in OhioLINK, the statewide electronic academic catalog system. Online borrowing privileges are reserved for students registered at Siegal College. Community members are welcome to browse the catalog, visit the Garber Library and borrow materials.
