Collection Salvage Priorities:
Kelvin Smith Library



The following list is ranked in order from top priority to lowest priority. Disaster salvage should proceed accordingly.

1. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS 2nd FLOOR

Location: Northwest section of building

The door to the second floor Special Collections is locked and has a keypad to alarm and disarm the department. Card access unlocks the door. Access to the department is limited to Joanne Eustis, Tim Robson, Gail Reese, Gina Midlik, Sue Hanson, Eleanor Blackman, Mary Burns. Security will have emergency access only.

  • A. LARGE CHINESE SCROLL (2nd Floor)
Location: Rolled in acid-free paper and kept on top of the metal cabinet with the grey foam supports in the east corner of the 2nd floor vault

  • B. VAULT CONTENTS (2nd Floor) Opens with key
Location: Northwest corner of the 2nd floor, enter Special Collections room, in the north corner of the room enter an office- the vault is through a door to the right upon entering the office area. Books are on compact shelving with manual controls. Art works are in a flat storage case with drawers on the right wall across from the book stacks. The Freiberger Periodical card Catalogue is to the left upon entering, against the north wall of vault.

2. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS (LOWER LEVEL)

Location: Lower level, southwest corner of building. Card access to room is available through Joanne Eustis, Tim Robson, Gail Reese, Gina Midlik, Sue Hanson, Elinor Blackman, Mary Burns, and Security.

  • A. BOOKS (Lower Level)
Location: Books are on compact shelving, operable only when the power is on or by battery packs.

  • B. SEARS PERIODICAL CARD CATALOGUE (Lower Level)
Location: Lower level against the south wall

  • C. EARLY ENGLISH BOOKS-THESIS CATALOGUE (Lower Level)
Location: Lower level against the south wall.

3. REFERENCE COLLECTION AND GOVERMENT DOCUMENTS

  • A. REFERENCE COLLECTION (excluding "Ready Reference" and "New Books")
Location: 1st Floor

  • B. GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS (excluding U.S. and State Geological Survey Collection)
Location: 2nd Floor, Southwest-the only book stacks on the second floor.

4. INDEXES AND ABSTRACTS esp. CHEM. ABSTRACTS, Beil & Gmelin Large Bound Sets

Location: 1st floor Northwest stack units right after the microfilm.

5. CIRCULATING COLLECTION- LC

Location: 3d floor, all units in the western stack area running from south to north, all units in the North Stacks except last 4.

6. JOURNAL COLLECTION

Location: 1st floor the North stacks from east to west ends of the floor, lower level all stacks

7. CIRCULATING COLLECTION-DEWEY CLASSIFICATION

Location: 3d floor, the last 4 units North shelving units along windows running from east to west.

8. MICROFORMS

Location: 1st floor -the first northwest shelving units to the north of the central west windows

9. ADMINISTRATION OFFICE FILES

Location: 2nd floor North (2 left turns when coming off the stairs.)

What and Where is Siegal?

The notation "Siegal" in the online catalog refers to the Aaron Garber Library of the Siegal College of Judaic Studies at 26500 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland OH 44122. The Aaron Garber Library is the academic library of the College and the central library of the Cleveland Jewish community. It includes 30,000 volumes, plus periodicals, language tapes, music and text CDs in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. The Library's electronic catalog is part of the online library system managed by Case Western Reserve University, and is included in OhioLINK, the statewide electronic academic catalog system. Online borrowing privileges are reserved for students registered at Siegal College. Community members are welcome to browse the catalog, visit the Garber Library and borrow materials.
