Restrictions: The Special Collections Research Center is open to any interested researcher upon presentation of a valid CASE ID or other valid official identification card. The Center is open to other researchers by appointment only.
Acquisition: This collection was the gift of Norman P. Goss to the Case Alumni Association in 1977, with the understanding that it would be added to the History of Science and Technology Collection at Case Institute of Technology. The collection was deposited in the Department of Special Collections.
Goss was a Cleveland area inventor and researcher born in 1906. He graduated Case Institute of Technology in 1925 and made significant contributions to the field of metals research, most notably in perfecting the Goss structure in 1935. He died in 1977.
The collection is an important and extensive record of original research done by Norman P. Goss that led to patents for new processes in the manufacturing of silicon steel and continuous castings in the metals field. The collection is arranged in the following ten series:
