Hypertext archive. Digital edition. Online project. Digital thematic research collection. What are the implications of the terms we use to describe electronic scholarship? Professor Price considers the nature of the scholarly edition as it has developed from the print past into the digital present. What are the current models that underlie the terms used for digital scholarship, and what do they assume about the past, present, and future of textual studies? How is the work of something like the Whitman Archive changing scholarly practice in literature, and what impact will this work have on future humanistic study? In addressing such questions, Price considers the status of editorial work and humanities computing both in the academy and in society at large.
