When you're looking for an audio book, a new best seller, or a foreign language magazine that you can check out, take a look at the CPL@Case-KSL satellite collection. A 2006 collaboration between the Cleveland Public Library (CPL) and Case's Kelvin Smith Library, the collection is designed for Case faculty, students, and staff and features the popular literature and formats found in neighborhood libraries and favorite bookstores.

Borrowing, Returning, and Privileges...
More Than Best-Sellers!
Look to your right when you enter KSL—towards the reading alcove near Thwing Center. You'll find shelves with audio books, fiction & non-fiction books, biographies, best-sellers & more...tall wood display shelves have CPL popular magazines on food, sports, home decoration, news, remodeling, and entertainment. KSL's famous comfortable seating next to the collection makes it easy to find something and spend some time reading for fun. Best of all, you can find it and check it out right from the CPL@Case-KSL collection area!
- Checkout all books, audiobooks & magazines from the CPL@Case-KSL collection
- A CPL selfcheckout computer is adjacent to the collection's bookshelves:
- Use a CPL (or Greater Access CPL) library card to check out these materials,
- Or, KSL library staff can check them out for you on a live CPL connection at the KSL Main Service Desk.
- Get a CPL Greater Access library card at the KSL Main Service Desk
- Note: If you are nrolled and/or employed at Case, KSL staff can issue you a CPL card while you are in the library. (Family members of Case individuals & others should have their CPL cards issued at their neighborhood CPL branch or any of the CPL libraries.)
- KSL library staff will verify your Case status (enrolled or employed), a current address with a valid driver's license or state photo ID, and will then issue your CPL card.
- KSL staff can also verify the status of a CPL card you may already have, and update the card for you.
CPL@Case-KSL Borrowing Privileges
Borrowing privileges for the CPL@Case-KSL collection are very similar to those for Case and OhioLINK materials:
- Library cards must be in good standing to have borrowing privileges
- All borrowers are responsible for materials borrowed on the card (fines and lost/billed items block privileges)
- Loan period: 3 weeks for most materials, unless otherwise indicated
- Renewals: up to 3x
- Sign up for email CPL notices at Net Notice to stay current on your CPL account & receive overdue reminders
Returning CPL Items
- Return CPL@Case-KSL materials to KSL, to keep them here, and for quick checkin/clearance off of your CPL account
- CPL items checked out at other CPL sites are best returned to the original site, for good account maintenance (transportation of materials between CPL and KSL is bi-weekly, not daily, and is intended for this CPL@Case-KSL collection)
- KSL is a satellite location for these CPL materials, and is not a delivery option for the regular CPL collection (continue to select your neighborhood branch library when requesting CPL items)

New CPL materials arrive at KSL regularly, and include foreign language magazines in French, Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Hebrew, and others. The CPL@Case-KSL website has more about this satellite collection & services like the email alert notices when new items arrive at KSL. You'll also find book lists for what to read next, best seller lists, book award sites, literary blogs, and suggest-a-purchase forms.
"We're interested in what Case wants to have in this collection, and we'd like your suggestions for favorite authors & titles, subjects, new languages, so we can work with CPL librarians to bring the best to the CPL@Case-KSL collection," says Karen Thornton, KSL Government Documents Librarian and coordinator of the collection.
This partnership between Case and the Cleveland Public Library brings a collection to KSL that is tailored to what you'd like to read. The CPL@Case-KSL website gives you the opportunity to participate in the process!
