PIN
What's a PIN and Why Do You Need One?
Your PIN is your Personal Identification Number, and it protects the information in your library account, just like the PIN in your bank account protects your financial information. Only you can access your Case Catalog library account, with your PIN. Your PIN gives you lots of benefits, too!
PINs are not assigned. Log on to the Case Catalog, create a PIN in your account and use your PIN to:
- Renew online! (avoid fines--renew before Case & OhioLINK items are overdue)
- Check on the status of held items or OhioLINK orders
- Cancel OhioLINK orders you no longer need.
- Enjoy software-free remote access to OhioLINK resources
Remote Access to OhioLINK Resources via PIN Authentication
If you are a student, faculty, or staff at Case, your PIN also gives you software-free remote authentication to OhioLINK electronic databases and journals. When you're away from your own computer or away from campus, logon to OhioLINK and choose a database or electronic journal. You'll be prompted to enter :
- Case as your school
- Your name and Case Account Number (your SS# is no longer used)
- Your library PIN
For current Case enrolled and employed individuals, it's a simple way to have 2 hours of remote access to OhioLINK-only electronic content, and you can reconnect as often as you need to use the reources! (Remote authentication to Case-only resources requires VPN software on your computer.) Use PIN authentication for OhioLINK-only resources across the U.S. and around the world!
How to Put a PIN in Your Record
The library does not issue your PIN - choose whatever you'd like to use. Your PIN is case-sensitive, and you put it in your library account by choosing "View your library record" on the Case Catalog. Follow the prompts on the screen and enter a PIN, and hit enter. When the screen refreshes, enter the PIN two more times and hit enter. You should see your name appear on the screen. If you have items checked out, you can view them, and if you ordered OhioLINK books, you can check to see if they are in transit to Case.
Forget Your PIN?
Just call the library Main Service Desk and tell the staff you've forgotten your PIN. They'll ask you a couple of questions and delete it (it's encrypted so staff can't tell what you used) and you can enter it again. Any Case library circulation desk can delete your PIN if you forget it-just call.
General questions may be directed to the Kelvin Smith Library Main Service Desk 216-368-3506 or the Contact Us link on the library website.
