Library privileges are extended to you when you are a Post-Doc working on a Case research project. Frequently, your status is unknown to the Case Libraries if you are externally funded, or if you are no longer enrolled or employed at Case.
You can enjoy borrowing and research privileges to support your project, once library staff create an updated library account for you. With a library account, you'll have access to the collections at all campus libraries, as well as the collections of OhioLINK member institutions.
To create your account, we'll enter general contact and sponsoring department information into our online system. We can help you get started with information about the Case libraries, services, and resources for your research!
Requests for Post-Doc library accounts are generally completed within 24 hours or less, weekdays. Staff will create your account M-F during regular business hours and will confirm your account & library privileges with an email message.
If you are on campus and working in an office or in one of the libraries, you'll have automatic access to licensed library resources. If you are working remotely, or using a wireless laptop and need access to licensed library resources you'll need an authorized, activated VPN connection.
It's easy to determine whether or not you're on an authorized connection--use the Kelvin Smith Library homepage at http://library.case.edu and look for the Green Light 'network active' icon on the upper right of the page. If you see a Red Light 'not active' icon, launch your VPN application and sign on with network credentials. If your status does not include VPN access, you're welcome to use computers at any of the Case Libraries.
Your Case library account status also gives you access to other library services like the Freedman Center in KSL, and free classes through CaseLearns. Depending on the subject area of your research project, your "home library" and reference subject-specialists might be at the Health Center Library, Kelvin Smith Library, Law Library, or the MSASS Harris Library.
We're happy to answer any inquiries or comments, at smithcontact@case.edu. We look forward to talking with you.
