Biography:
I am a librarian in the Research Services Department. I also hold the title of Collection Management Officer. I help faculty and students choose titles for the Modern Languages and Literatures Department and the Art History and Art Department. I do the same with the AfroAmerican and Women and Gender Studies interdisciplinary areas. I have somewhat of a checkered career as a librarian. I hail from Evansville, Indiana, graduated and got my MLS at Indiana University. I worked at a small historic library called Willard Library which is haunted. Look it up on the Web - Willard Library Evansville, IN, "ghost cam." The most interesting segment of my career was when I worked for a subscription agency and pubisher in the Netherlands. I lived in a town called Lisse, where you see all the tulip pictures. The fields are all around the bigTulip gardens are there. I identify with all students coming from other countries and now studying here. It takes a while to become comfortable in a new country, but eventually you do. I travelled a good deal in Europe and Canada. My husband and I have just purchased a vacation house in Costa Rica, so anyone who speaks Spanish - you can help me.I have studied many languages, but can say I am fluent in Dutch and German. I also speak French, Russian, and Mandarin Chinese to a smaller degree. I know some Spanish, but it was a long time ago. I have been here at Case Western Reserve University for about 24 years. Yes, I am old. I have 5 cats and 2 dogs and a stepson.
I am here to help you at any time with anything you need to do relating to the library, or if you just want to talk. If you just want to stop by and meet me, feel free to do so. My office is 201 G. You can just ask at the desk downstairs for Arlene. I am the only Arlene here. You can also send me an email. I will be sending you emails throughout the year with things that come up, new services, programs, and just to check in. I look forward to meeting and helping you.
