Mission

The Kelvin Smith Library strives for excellence and embraces opportunity. As an innovative partner in the pursuit of academic excellence and a leader in providing dynamic information services, Kelvin Smith Library provides physical places that welcome and contribute to research and learning; works in partnership with members of the university community; acquires, manages, presents, provides access and preserves information resources that support research, scholarship, artistic endeavors, and learning; and educate the university community in the effective use of library/information resources and services.

Vision

The Kelvin Smith Library is an integral component of a world-class university. Librarians work in partnership with members of the university to create and share knowledge, extend the boundaries of digital library research, and build an informed, civil community through:

  • Space designed for changing patterns of scholarship and learning as well as the changing lifestyles of faculty and students.
  • Access to rich and diverse research materials regardless of format, location or mode of access.
  • Transforming research and learning through the creation of digital libraries, electronic publishing services and open access awareness.
  • Personalized services tailored to individual needs and delivered whenever possible without regard for time and space constraints
  • Contributions to the local community that narrow Cleveland's digital opportunity gap.
  • Organizational effectiveness from evidence-based assessment, innovative marketing, coordinated planning and staff development that responds to strategic objectives.

What and Where is Siegal?

The notation "Siegal" in the online catalog refers to the Aaron Garber Library of the Siegal College of Judaic Studies at 26500 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland OH 44122. The Aaron Garber Library is the academic library of the College and the central library of the Cleveland Jewish community. It includes 30,000 volumes, plus periodicals, language tapes, music and text CDs in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. The Library's electronic catalog is part of the online library system managed by Case Western Reserve University, and is included in OhioLINK, the statewide electronic academic catalog system. Online borrowing privileges are reserved for students registered at Siegal College. Community members are welcome to browse the catalog, visit the Garber Library and borrow materials.
