Job Title: Multimedia Student Assistant

Job Description:

The Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship provides the campus of Case Western Reserve University a unique, technology-rich space featuring multimedia software and hardware to scan, digitize analog materials, edit audio and video, print, and much more. Multimedia Student Assistants (MSAs) in the Freedman Center are responsible for providing a range of multimedia support including general customer assistance, photo & poster printing, and scanning for digitization projects. Employees frequently use multimedia-related tools including video and audio editing software, scanners, large format printers, and Adobe products such as Acrobat and Photoshop.

Job Description
During scheduled shifts, MSAs will provide assistance to patrons who need help using the technology within the Freedman Center, conduct intake of poster drop offs, as well as print posters using large format printers. These employees will also work on departmental projects and tasks including digitization of materials for Digital Case and Premium Services as assigned. Prompt reporting of issues with software and hardware to managers is expected.


Required Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn new skills, take initiative, and seek and accept continual job-related training
  • Reliability and commitment to adhere to an established and regular semester-long shift schedule
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working on digital projects
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and  advanced applications
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Mac OS a plus
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint to be able to assist patrons with poster printing
  • Strong degree of professionalism when assisting a diverse customer population
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using audio and/or video and/or digital image editing software (ie: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Elements, Adobe Elements, Audacity)  (list on résumé software experience)
  • Background in digital media creation (video, visual design, image manipulation)
  • Have taken, or are registered for CaseLearns workshops  http://library.case.edu/caselearns/  (list on résumé courses and dates)
  • Experience working in a customer support environment

Hourly Rate: $10.00
Hours Needed: 8-10 hours per week; availability of day, evening, and weekends

What and Where is Siegal?

The notation "Siegal" in the online catalog refers to the Aaron Garber Library of the Siegal College of Judaic Studies at 26500 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland OH 44122. The Aaron Garber Library is the academic library of the College and the central library of the Cleveland Jewish community. It includes 30,000 volumes, plus periodicals, language tapes, music and text CDs in English, Hebrew and Yiddish.
