Job Title: Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant

Summary and position requirements
Kelvin Smith Library is seeking a Student Assistant to serve in the essential role of efficient daily operations in the Interlibrary Loan Department (ILL). Training will be provided by Interlibrary Loan staff. The summer position is 15-20 hours per week, 3-4 continuous hours per day, Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM.  Additional hours may be arranged.  Please note Summer 2014 employment begins May 9th, and ends August 22nd.  This position could continue through the  2014/2015 Academic Year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

·        Provide support for and work closely with the Interlibrary Loan staff by processing interlibrary loans at every level, including filling requests to other libraries, processing items received for KSL patrons, and processing ILL items returned to KSL 
·        Retrieve books, journal volumes, and other miscellaneous items from the KSL stacks, as needed for ILL processing 
·        Careful handling of library materials 
·        Various routine circulation functions 
·        Neat and efficient scanning and photocopying
·        Additional tasks, including public service desk, mail preparation, and shelving duties 

Minimum/Essential Qualifications 

·        Basic scholarly skills, recognition of citation formats 
·        Basic computer skills; ability to use computers and willingness to learn interlibrary loan system and scanning software 
·        Familiarity with library physical layout, ability to locate library items in stacks 
·        Flexibility and willingness to perform additional tasks
·        Careful and conscientious handling of library materials 
·        Willingness and ability to work an established schedule; dependability 
·        Good communication skills 
·        Strong attention to detail and accuracy 
·        Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Date of position description: April 2014

Rate: $9.20/hr - undergraduate, $10.45/hr graduate

The notation "Siegal" in the online catalog refers to the Aaron Garber Library of the Siegal College of Judaic Studies at 26500 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland OH 44122. The Aaron Garber Library is the academic library of the College and the central library of the Cleveland Jewish community. It includes 30,000 volumes, plus periodicals, language tapes, music and text CDs in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. The Library's electronic catalog is part of the online library system managed by Case Western Reserve University, and is included in OhioLINK, the statewide electronic academic catalog system. Online borrowing privileges are reserved for students registered at Siegal College. Community members are welcome to browse the catalog, visit the Garber Library and borrow materials.
