Kelvin Smith Library offers a variety of spaces to support your educational needs. Descriptions of individual spaces are listed below. Choose the one that best fits your needs and reserve it today!

Popular Seats

solo pod seat

Some of the most popular seats in KSL now have the option of being reserved. Reserve a solo pod available on the first, second or third floor or choose a seat at one of the large tables in the third floor Quiet Reading Room. Reservations are for a maximum 3-hour time period and guarantee you a spot in KSL, especially during busy times!

These seats can also be reserved onsite. Any seat that can be reserved will have a table sign with a QR code along with instructions for making your reservation.

Individual Quiet Study Rooms

Single Study Room

(Available to students)

Located on the third floor of Kelvin Smith Library, these individual study rooms allow students to study in a private space. Rooms include a desk, chair and power outlet. These rooms are intended for quiet study only and headphones are required, as these rooms are not soundproof and are part of the third floor quiet area. Only one student may use this space at a time.

 

Reservations for this space are available through the Spartan Reservation System.

Collaboration Rooms

CWRU Students studying in a collaboration room.

The KSL Collaboration Rooms are great for active group work exclusively for students!

Designed with technology to encourage effective and collaborative work, the rooms feature a wall-mounted  42" LED TV that hooks to your laptop so your project can be seen by everyone. A wall-panel control unit lets you hook up for HDMI, VGA and composite ports (cables and adapters are also available at the Service Center). Collaboration rooms can be found on the first floor, third floor and lower level.

Freedman Center Collaboration Commons

(Available to students, faculty, alumni, and staff)

Located on the first floor of Kelvin Smith Library, the Collaboration Commons is a newly renovated space for collaborations, consultations, and instruction sessions regarding digital scholarship. Whether you are consulting our digital scholarship librarians regarding a new project idea, taking advantage of one of our workshops or meetups, meeting with your research team, or holding your own instructional session, this flexible space with touch-screen technology can be adapted to your needs. We encourage you to visit with your colleagues, ask us questions, and use this space to advance your teaching and scholarship.

Individual Virtual Meeting Space

Located inside the Freedman Collaboration Commons on the first floor of Kelvin Smith Library, this room is available for students to participate in private virtual meetings. This room features a desk, chair, power outlet, and whiteboard and does not offer any additional technology. Students may bring their own computer or borrow a laptop from the kiosk located on the first floor. Headphones are not required. Only one student may use this space at a time.

Classrooms

(Available to faculty, teaching assistants or CWRU staff)

Generously sized rooms for presentations or classes.  Each room has projection systems and web cameras for virtual interactions. Furniture is mobile to be configured however you wish. Laptops are available for hands-on interactive instruction.
